Music
At BCPS in addition to the scheduled school music lessons we offer the option to take up a number of instruments. These lessons are delivered by external providers and are billed directly by the music teachers. More information and cost for lessons can be obtained from the School Office.
Trips and residentials
In order to include a broad range of enrichment activities and experiences to our curriculum, during the academic year we endeavour to offer the children the opportunity to take part in one or two off-site excursions. These are planned meticulously and parents are sent detailed information and costs in advance. We are committed to keeping the costs to parents to a minimum. Some of these trips are optional but there may be others that are considered compulsory for pupils. These can be discussed with your child’s school teacher on a case by case basis.
As a wise man once said, ‘It takes a village to raise a child’, how true that is!
As a family school, we recognise the importance of the whole family being involved with educating a child from the moment they open their eyes.
Grandparents are such an integral part of a child’s upbringing and can choose to offer a lump sum gift of upto £3,000 per year free of inheritance tax towards grandchildren’s school fees. An investment of this kind means grandparents aren’t giving away lifetime earnings in inheritance tax but instead are investing in their grandchildren’s future.
As a grandparent you can set up a trust for paying school fees to take advantage of the substantial tax benefits. A trust, if set up early enough, can mean no immediate tax liabilities as well as being excluded from your estate for inheritance tax (so long as it is set up seven years prior to passing on).
The trust allows you to ‘gift’ money to your chosen beneficiaries, e.g. grandchildren for their education, but still retain some control. That’s why more and more grandparents are choosing to contribute towards school fees.
Please feel free to discuss with the bursar and contact an independent financial advisor for additional information on tax planning and how you can help give your grandchildren the gift of education.
