BCPS Newsletter Issue 1 Spring Term 2022

07 Jan, 2022

Dear Parents, Families and Friends of BCPS,

Bury Catholic Preparatory School

May I begin by wishing each and every member of our beloved school family a blessed and prosperous new year. I know that we each have our individual wishes and resolutions, but I also know that right at the top of the list, we all share the hope that we shall emerge from 2022 free from the anxieties and limitations placed on us by the pandemic. I pray, on your behalf, that we can soon see the light shining brightly at the end of the tunnel we find ourselves in. One thing I can say with confidence is that we steer our way towards that day as a family, with our trademark strength and resilience, and steadfast in our love and support of each other. How lucky I feel to be able to shout from the rooftops, “Whatever befalls; whatever we are asked to weather; we’ve got this! Bring it on!”

Our children continue to lead the way for us all, and have returned to school full of energy and enthusiasm, and ready to take on the world! As you can see from the accompanying photograph and those later in the newsletter, our Early Years department is awash with superheroes! Indeed, throughout the school, our children are an example to us all. What is that lovely saying…? ’Not all superheroes wear capes!’ Very apt!

I would also like to take this opportunity to officially welcome Aminathi, George, Yusuf and their families, who this week have started their Bury Catholic Preparatory School journeys. I know that you are all going to be incredibly happy here. You never know, maybe your association with our lovely ’home from home’ will last as long as mine has done… now that is a lot of years, each one of them as precious as the last!!

Have a wonderful weekend! Wrap up warm, and stay safe!

Best wishes! As always, Miss Farrow

The Baptism of the Lord
(Luke 3:15-16, 21-22)

Everyone is getting very excited – it looks as though John the Baptist is the saviour God has promised to send! But John explains that he’s not the one they have been waiting for. John is pointing the way to the Messiah who will baptise everyone with the Holy Spirit, not just with water. When Jesus himself comes to John for baptism, the Holy Spirit appears in the form of a dove and a voice from heaven says, “You are my Son, the Beloved.”

In this Gospel story we see all three persons of the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The Trinity shows us what love is like. When we are baptised we join God’s family. We are all God’s children and God loves us very much! God is our Father and we are all sisters and brothers!

Dear Jesus, your Father loved you very much. Please be with anyone who doesn’t know what it’s like to be loved by a parent. Amen.

If you have any brothers and sisters, make a special effort this week to get on well. Try not to fight or fall out – get help from a grown up if you need to!

I am thrilled to announce our second ’Book Club’ title…

The Red Notebook
by Antoine Laurain!

‘He was about to commit a forbidden act. A transgression, For a man should never go through a woman’s handbag.’

Heroic bookseller Laurent Letellier comes across an abandoned handbag on a Parisian street, and feels impelled to return it to its owner.

The bag contains no phone or contact information. But a small red notebook with handwritten thoughts and jottings reveals a person that Laurent would very much like to meet.

Without a name to go on, and only a few of her possessions to help him, how is he to find one woman in a city of millions?

The Red Notebook, originally a French novelette, has already been sold in twelve different languages.

‘Parisian perfection’ (HRH The Duchess od Cornwall)

‘Resist this little novel if you can; it’s the very quintessence of French romance’ (The Times)

Date to remember… 21st January, 2022 (9.00am)!
Join us for coffee and cake… and some jolly good conversation about a lovely, clever, funny story!

“Reading is a discount ticket to everywhere.” (Mary Schmich)
