BCPS Newsletter Issue 6 Summer Term 2022

27 May, 2022
Dear Parents, Families and Friends of BCPS,
Last week I finished my weekly letter by looking ahead and wishing ‘Here’s to a fantastic and memorable Jubilee week ahead for us all’! This week, I am proud and pleased that I can declare…
‘WHAT a fantastic and memorable week it turned out to be!!
My main aim when planning our Platinum Jubilee celebration week was to give the children a week they would remember for the rest of their lives. I dearly hope that to be the case. The Jubilee is indeed a historic landmark in our country’s story, and we have certainly marked it well, as this newsletter attests! Enjoy all the articles and photographs, which paint the picture of the marvellous week we have spent together as the BCPS school family.
Our week began with the launch of a new annual award, the BCPS Queen Elizabeth Community Award , which will reach forward through many a year ahead, a fitting legacy. The week ended with our burial of a time capsule, a link back in time to 2022 and all that it held, for the BCPS family of the future.
What fabulous memories we have made together! Wishing you a wonderful half term break and a jolly good rest!
Enjoy the Jubilee as the celebrations continue!!
Best wishes! As always, Miss Farrow

REFLECTION
UNITED!
Before he goes back to his Father, Jesus prays for his friends – and that means all of us! Jesus prays that all his friends will be united. Jesus is united with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit and he wants his friends to live in love in the same way. When we live in love with each other, other people can see that Jesus really is alive in us.
DID YOU KNOW?
We celebrate on different days in different countries, but we all celebrate the Ascension of the Lord. We remember that Jesus ‘went up’ to God the Father in heaven and sent the Holy Spirit to be with us always. This isn’t easy to understand as we know heaven is not a physical place. We do know, however, that we can look forward to it being somewhere wonderful!

PRAYER
Dear Jesus, help us to love one another as you love us. Amen.
ACTION
Sometimes grown us need help to sort out arguments and go to a mediator. Make sure you ask for help if you need to put something right with a friend.

BCPS QUEEN ELIZABETH COMMUNITY AWARD
Our Platinum Jubilee week got off to an exciting start as Miss Farrow proudly announced the launch of a new award, the BCPS Queen Elizabeth Community Award, an exciting annual award, a Platinum Jubilee legacy, underpinned by service, duty, respect and honour. The award offers an opportunity for the children of our special little school to aspire to the example of the Queen, to the promises of duty and service which she has stayed true to for 70 years! So our commemoration of this historic landmark and the example of our wonderful Queen Elizabeth II will continue on… beyond 2022… beyond our present children… to the BCPS children of the future – a fine legacy!

A RIGHT ROYAL INVITATION!

Our beloved Grandparents attended a Royal Jubilee Afternoon Tea on Wednesday and what a jubilant event they enjoyed! There were delicious refreshments, along with timely and celebratory entertainment throughout the afternoon, provided by all our children! What a real treat as we toasted our beloved Queen with a good old British ‘cuppa’ or two and plenty of cake. It was a complete joy to welcome such a valued sector of our school community!

Our new ’Book lub’ title is…
The Island
by Victoria Hislop!
On the brink of a life-changing decision, Alexis Fielding longs to find out about her mother’s past. But Sofia has never spoken of it. All she admits to is growing up in a small Cretan village before moving to London. When Alexis decides to visit Crete, however, Sofia gives her daughter a letter to take to an old friend, and promises that through her she will learn more.
Arriving in Plaka, Alexis is astonished to see that it lies a stone’s throw from the tiny, deserted island of Spinalonga – Greece’s former leper colony. Then she finds Fotini, and at last hears the story that Sofia has buried all her life: the tale of her great-grandmother Eleni and her daughters and a family rent by tragedy, war and passion. She discovers how intimately she is connected with the island, and how secrecy holds them all in its powerful grip.
A page-turning tale that reminds us that love and life continue in even the most extraordinary of circumstances

BCPS CROWN JEWELS!
What a fabulous response we had to our competition to design and make a crown fit for the Platinum Jubilee. We have been inundated with the most gorgeous creations, each one of them beautiful in its own right! The seemingly impossible job of choosing winners fell to Mrs Smith, one of our Governors, who presented prizes at our special celebratory assembly. Winners were delighted with their souvenir vintage Jubilee plates, kindly designed and decorated by Eva’s Mum!

WHAT A PERFORMANCE!
We pulled out all the stops to present a Platinum Jubilee concert on Tuesday. We turned back the pages of the Queen’s seventy year reign to dip into each of the decades and pick out a few highlights. Each class took responsibility for a decade and all our children entertained our audience royally! Here’s to the Queen!
EXTRA-CURRICULAR PROVISION!
Please find below details of our extra-curricular programme for the summer term. Sessions after school run from 3.30 – 4.30pm. As you can see from the timetable, there are some smashing opportunities for our children, and huge thanks are due to our wonderful staff for providing and facilitating the programme.
Please contact the office to register your child for any of the activities and/ or wraparound care provision.
Please also note that it is essential to register your child for after school clubs, to enable us to satisfactorily staff and resource sessions.
